Create Characters That Move Beyond the Screen

Learning 3D character work isn't about memorizing buttons. It's about understanding how anatomy shifts when someone walks, how fabric responds to movement, how light catches on different surfaces. Our programs focus on building that intuition through hands-on projects and real-time feedback from professionals who work in the industry daily.

Learning From People Who Actually Do This Work

Most of our instructors balance teaching with active project work. That means when you're learning rigging techniques, you're getting insights from someone who just solved a tricky shoulder deformation issue last week. When discussing animation pipelines, you're hearing about what actually works in production, not just textbook theory.

We keep class sizes deliberately small. When you're wrestling with weight painting or trying to nail a walk cycle, you need someone who can look at your specific work and explain why something isn't quite right. Not generic feedback, but answers to your actual questions.

Programs Built Around Real Projects

We structure learning around completing actual work. You'll build portfolio pieces while developing skills.

Character Modeling Fundamentals

Starting from basic forms, you'll work up to creating a complete stylized character. Covers topology, edge flow, and form development through iterative refinement.

12 weeks, starting July 2026

Rigging and Technical Animation

Build control systems that animators will actually want to use. You'll tackle facial rigs, body mechanics, and deformation challenges through progressive projects.

14 weeks, starting September 2026

Advanced Character Animation

Move beyond basic mechanics into performance and personality. Work on shot-based assignments that require both technical skill and creative decision-making.

16 weeks, starting October 2026

How Our Programs Actually Work

Each program centers on building complete projects rather than isolated exercises. You'll work through the same decisions professionals face: planning your approach, solving technical problems, managing time constraints, and refining based on critique.

The Review Process

Every week includes structured feedback sessions. You'll present work in progress, explain your approach, and get specific guidance on what's working and what needs adjustment. This mirrors how actual studio teams operate.

Technical Resources

Access to software, render farms, and reference libraries continues beyond class hours. Most students find they need substantial practice time outside scheduled sessions, and we make sure you have what you need to work effectively.

Portfolio Development

By the end of a program, you'll have completed work that demonstrates your capabilities. We help you refine presentation, but the actual quality comes from the hours you put into your projects during the program.

Your Path Through a Program

Here's roughly how a typical program unfolds over several months.

1

Foundation Phase

First few weeks focus on core concepts and basic techniques. You'll complete smaller assignments that build fundamental skills and establish workflow habits that matter later.

2

Project Development

Middle section involves working on your main project. You'll make design decisions, solve technical challenges, and iterate based on regular feedback from instructors and classmates.

3

Refinement and Presentation

Final weeks focus on polish and portfolio preparation. You'll refine details, create proper presentation materials, and prepare your work for actual review by industry professionals.

Portrait of Liisa Tamm, graduate of Advanced Character Animation program

What helped most was getting feedback from people actively working on games and films. They spotted issues in my rigs that I wouldn't have caught for months otherwise. The projects were challenging but they reflected actual production constraints, which made the learning relevant when I started applying for positions.
